Marriage Preparation & Weddings
Congratulations on your upcoming wedding!
The Sacrament of Matrimony is the covenant by which a man and a woman establish between themselves a partnership for life. It is, by its nature, ordered toward the good of the spouses and the procreation and education of offspring. This covenant between baptized persons has been raised by Christ the Lord to the dignity of a sacrament. For couples who are preparing for marriage, comprehensive, high-quality marriage preparation is essential in helping couples work through the questions and challenges that will arise after they marry.
The Archdiocese of Denver requires that couples approach the church to begin their marriage preparation process at least eight (8) months in advance of your approximate wedding date. Please email Deacon Jerry Swain at j.swain@bscs-denver.net to schedule your initial meeting to discuss the process in detail. His contact information is also here.
Please do not set a wedding date until you have had your initial meeting with our deacon.
Sacrament of Marriage at Blessed Sacrament FAQs
The marriage preparation process involves (1) Couple inventory/questionnaire and follow-up sessions; (2) Marriage preparation classes or retreat; and (3) Natural Family Planning (NFP) course. This process will be discussed in greater detail at the initial meeting with our deacon. More information is also available on the Archdiocese of Denver website at: http://archden.org/eflm/marriage/.
A Nuptial Mass is the usual form of celebration for the Sacrament of Marriage between two Catholics. A marriage between a Catholic and a baptized Christian (or an unbaptized person) is celebrated outside of Mass. The Archdiocese of Denver does not permit outdoor weddings.
Wedding dates are booked by the parish office on a first come, first served basis but should not be scheduled until after your initial meeting with our deacon. Church law allows weddings to be held during most days of the year, except the Holy Week Triduum. However, it is preferable that weddings not be scheduled during the Lenten season. Weddings are celebrated on Saturdays at Blessed Sacrament at 10:00am, 11:00am, 1:30pm, or 6:30pm. Rehearsals are scheduled on the preceding Friday at 5:30pm.
The parish has its own cantor and organist. The cantor (music director) will assist the couple in their selection of music appropriate to this sacrament. If an outside musician is desired, please discuss this with our music director, deacon, or pastor.
The facility fee is $400. This does not include the cost of the pastor, musicians, wedding coordinator, or reception venue.
Marriage
“A man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh. So they are no longer two but one flesh.”
