Religious Education for Children Preschool–6th Grades

In the Archdiocese of Denver, the Archbishop has restored the order of the Sacraments (information about restoring the Order of the Sacraments of Initiation).

Children will prepare for and receive their First Reconciliation in 2nd grade.  Then they will prepare for and receive Confirmation and First Communion at the same Mass during their 3rd-grade year.

At Blessed Sacrament, we require that all children participate in religious education for a minimum of 1 year prior to preparing for any sacraments. This is to ensure proper time for growth in the relationship with our Lord and have appropriate time for discernment of the Sacraments. If, for some reason, the child has had no instruction to date, they will be delayed. For instance, if you have a child in 3rd grade who has never had any religious education, they would participate in regular instruction this year, then reconciliation in 4th grade, and Confirmation and First Communion in 5th grade.  Our multi-aged class design allows us to offer this unique opportunity for the children to go at their own pace.

The Sacrament of Reconciliation is celebrated on the first Saturday of March, and the Sacraments of First Communion and Confirmation are celebrated in May on a date and time scheduled by the Archbishop's office.

Registering for Religious Education
If you would like information about availability for 2026-27, please email Nicole at n.stephan@bscs-denver.net. Please send her the current age/grade of your kid(s), sacraments they have already received (if any), any previous Religious Ed experience, and review this video to understand our approach to Religious Education called Catechesis of the Good Shepherd. We look forward to assisting you in raising your children in the Catholic Faith.

We know over-commitment affects all of us! As you look at your ability to register your child for RE, please reflect on your family’s capacity to take on more. While sports offer many benefits, it's worth remembering that roughly 7% of high school athletes advance to play in college. In contrast, every single one of our children will eventually confront life's ultimate questions and their own mortality. We encourage you to prayerfully consider how taking some time away from sports, or reducing their commitment, could create space to deeply invest in a strong foundation for their Catholic Faith—a foundation that will be a constant source of strength and guidance throughout their lives.
